Hard facts of abuse

Victims lose a total of 8.0 million days of paid work each year.

1 in 15 children are exposed to partner violence, and 90% are eyewitnesses to violence.

Cost of domestic violence exceeds $8.3 billion per year.

Despite public awareness, housing and shelters are not enough to keep victims safe.

Victims are forced to  distance themselves from friends and family.

21 - 60% of victims lose their jobs due to reasons stemming from abuse.

Why do victims stay, or go back.

Afraid abuser will follow through with threats of, he will hurt or kill them if they try to leave.

Study shows 20% of homicide victims were family members, person who intervened or law enforcement.

Lack of means to support themselves and their children.

Made to feel they are unable to make decisions.

Shelters are full, and only keeps victims for a short length of stay.
